Coat Styles

Coat StylesFall is always my favorite time of year, because it’s time to put away those raggedy, worn out flip-flops and get our long sleeve wardrobes out. My especially favorite thing to do is go coat shopping in the fall, because there are always so many new styles and designs to choose from. Depending upon where you live, and the weather you might endure during the colder months, there are a few different coat styles you might consider.

In some of the milder climates, you can often get away with a light weight jacket or a wind-breaker style coat. And, if you live in rain country like I do, you might want to look at getting some really good rain gear. It’s always fun to splash around in my red rubber boots and my polka-dotted rain coat, and I do it with flair! But then too, sometimes you need to break the chill of a winter snow storm, or bitter freezing temperatures, and it’s nice to have a big heavy parka style jacket. Parkas come in a variety of colors for both men and women, and are usually lined on the inside to keep you warm in extra cold conditions. My favorite coat style though, that works well on both men and women is a long trench coat. This type of coat can be worn in a variety of types of weather, and looks great in a classic black or a traditional khaki color. If you pick the right trench coat, that really fits you well, it will also be a great staple item in your wardrobe, because a classic trench coat looks just as great with a pair of jeans as it does over an elegant gown or a fancy suit.

While no two coat styles are created the same, it’s important to really know what your needs are when buying a new jacket. Some coats are created for fashion and some coats are created for comfort, but they are all designed to help keep you warm when it’s cold outside. Remember that if you dress in layers, it’s sometimes easier to wear a lighter jacket than it is to wear a heavier one, when you can remove layers if you need to. Whatever you decide for your climates conditions, it’s always fun to add a little flair to your style when it comes to buying a new coat. Shop for style, shop for fit, and shop for function!
